The World Boxing Council lightweight champion, the American Shakur Stevenson, retained his belt by knocking out last-minute opponent, the Englishman Josh Padley, in the ninth round this Saturday, in the card “The Last Crescendo”, held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
This same week, Stevenson’s initial rival and compatriot Floyd Schofield, had to withdraw due to illness.
For that reason, Padley came out as a last-minute opponent, fulfilling his role by withstanding Stevenson’s marksmanship and speed for eight rounds.
At some moments, Padley let his hands go and pressed, but Stevenson ended up dominating him.
The end of the fight occurred at 3:00 minutes of the ninth round, when Padley’s corner threw in the towel.
With this result, Stevenson improved his record to 23-0, with 11 knockouts, while Padley lost his unbeaten record, remaining at 15-1, 4 knockouts.
