World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Alberto Puello from the Dominican Republic will face official challenger Sandor Martin from Spain on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight will be part of the card headlined by Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Lamont Roach.
This bout marks a collaboration between PBC and Top Rank, the latter representing Martin of Spain (42-3, 15 KOs).
This will be the first defense for Puello (23-0, 10 KOs).
This is the second consecutive time that the undefeated champion appears on Davis’ undercard. His interim title win against Gary Antuanne Russell occurred on the June 15 card of last year at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Puello was promoted to absolute champion when Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs; 1 No-Contest) announced he was moving up a division.
Martin has been the mandatory challenger for over a year. He is well known for his October 2021 victory over former four-division champion Mikey Garcia (40-2, 30 KOs).
More than a year later, Martin had a great fight against Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) in which he lost by a close decision.
This great card can be seen in the United States on Amazon Prime Video PPV.
In Latin America it will be broadcast on ESPN KNOCKOUT and Disney+.
In Spain and part of Europe it will be broadcast on Movistar Plus+.
