Pell Mell! Puello and Martin ready to excel

World Boxing Council super lightweight champion, Dominican Alberto Puello, will defend his title against mandatory challenger Sandor Martin, as part of the card that heads the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight, presented by PBC at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Both fighters, who participated in a training session open to the media, commented on some aspects of the looming fight:

ALBERTO PUELLO

“Fighting here in New York in front of a great crowd that will have many Dominicans is really a gift from God that motivates me a lot.”

“I don’t care if I’m not talked about, people know who I am and I will continue to show that I am one of the best at 140 pounds.

“Being world champion and being able to regain what was mine is a dream come true. Few people can do that.

“If Martin wants to knock me out, he’s making a big mistake. I don’t think he has the strength or the tools to knock me out, and he knows it.

“I would like to unify the title after this fight. I don’t have anyone in particular in mind, I just want to face any champion out there.”

SANDOR MARTIN

“I’ll go out looking for the knockout, ready for some exchanges and a real war in which the fans are the real winners of the night.

“The fight with Teofimo (Lopez) didn’t leave me with any lasting lessons. It just showed me that I shouldn’t leave the outcome of a decision in the hands of the judges.

“A lot of people saw me as the winner of that fight, but now New York is giving me another chance to fight for a world title.

“The 140-pound division is full of big names like Valenzuela, Russell and Pitbull Cruz. I’m here for the big fights.”
