What began as one of the great dreams of our lifetime and always remembered president, Don José Sulaimán, is today a REALITY: the first World Boxing Cup, “Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix”, an innovative tournament that will be the stage for the next generation of boxing superstars, the new world champions.
The Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix will undoubtedly be a historic event that will change the way boxing is experienced, but above all, it will be the platform for hundreds of boxers from around the world to show what they are made of: 128 boxers, 32 participants in the four divisions: featherweight, super lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight, representing 41 countries, making it a truly global competition that will take place in Saudi Arabia.
Today, all actions and activations for the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix to take place have been put in place. One of the most important and vitally important is that all boxers must register for the Clean Boxing Program (CBP), a program instituted since 2016 and which, thanks to the joint efforts of the WBC and VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association), under the direction of its president, Dr. Margaret Goodman, has yielded great results.
The main objective of the program, in addition to testing, is to educate athletes about the danger and disadvantages that doping can cause, as well as the penalties for testing positive for prohibited substances, in or out of a competition. One of the main concerns of the WBC has always been to take care of the health and life of boxers, as well as to promote honest sports practices with the greatest possible caution.
It is imperative for the organization to get the message out to the world that doping is strictly prohibited in all sports, and special importance is given to combat sports, as it can cause irreversible damage that not only puts health at risk, but can lead to a fatal outcome.
This tournament will be more than a sporting competition; it will be a celebration of clean effort, hard work and commitment to the integrity of the sport. With the support of the world’s best athletes, the incredible support and vision of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Dr. Rakan, and the adherence to the Clean Boxing Program, the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix will establish itself as a benchmark for clean boxing, where only the strongest and most prepared can achieve glory.
