”Flying High!” Teraji and Akui weigh-in

World Boxing Council flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji from, Japan will face fellow WBA flyweight champion and compatriot Seigo Yuri Akui, toppin the bill this Thursday at the Ryogoku Sumo Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

At the official weigh-in held this Wednesday, Teraji weighed in at 111.7 pounds, while Akui weighed in at 111.9 pounds. WBC champion Teraji (24-1, 15 KOs) and WBA champion Akui (21-2-1, 11 KOs) will face off for the unification of the 112-pound division.

Teraji will make the first defense of his title, which he won last October, when he soundly defeated former Nicaraguan world champion Cristofer Rosales. It was a solid performance, dominant from start to finish, which ended with a bludgeoning  stoppage in the 11th round.

This was Teraji’s sixth consecutive victory since losing his undefeated record and the WBC light flyweight title to Masamichi Yabuki. In a direct rematch, Teraji regained the title in March 2022 and, after four successful defenses, decided to move up to flyweight to defeat Rosales and become world champion in a second division.

Akui seeks the third defense of his WBA flyweight title, which he won in January of last year with a 12-round decision over Artem Dalakian.

The fight is organized by Teiken Promotions and will be televised on ESPN KO for Latin America.
